It Wouldn't Be Homesteading Without Problems

Sometimes folks tell me I’m the hero, and that’s extremely kind and all, BUT I think they’re actually missing something significant. Stay with me here… Often times when I’m speaking at an event or checking my inbox folks tell me that I’ve inspired and/or educated them to grow their own food. Sometimes, they’ll even tell me that I’m their hero. Wow! I can’t think of a bigger privilege. But, there’s the thing… I might have inspired. I might have even become their guide. But, THEY put in the work. Let me explain… 2020 happened. At the very least we can all agree it’s been a year full of uncertainty: Pandemic, quarantine, food shortages, loss of jobs and more. But these folks too advantage of the problems and turned them into solutions. Essentially, they learned a few things and got to planting. While the world seemingly pinned out of control they took control of something could hold in their two hands. They gathered their families and got dirty together building gardens literally and figuratively. When the news and social media fared they were busy tending to baby chicks and other food growing various whatnots. Now, they have chickens laying eggs, meat birds going in the freezer and lots of product to be put up for the winter. Whether they know it or not they became the answer to untouchable problems. The seeds they were buys planting during Chao are now maturing plants that are feeding their families now. They may not be making headline news, but they are part of a strong undercurrent that is bringing revolution. If not to the entire world, at least to the world around them. They are making a difference. That means you are making a difference. Or, if you’re an aspiring food grower, you CAN make a difference. I can help (as the guide, not the hero ;) They can help (your fellow hero) At first my DIY Abundance member area was just a few instructional videos with a private little Facebook group. But now it feels more like a family getting together to help each other our on this little adventure that is growing our own food. I believe we’re making a real impact on the world around us. And who knows how reaching our impact will be. Say, you convince just one of your children to carry on the food growing legacy, and they, one of their children. Just how many generations of people are you affecting now? We tend to think in the now and get overwhelmed by our minimal reach. But, if we stick together we are Grand.
